Christmas Holiday Dates and Christmas morning broadcast from Lichfield Cathedral.

This year, BBC 1 will broadcast Christmas morning Eucharist live from Lichfield Cathedral.

We are very proud of our association with the City of Lichfield and its magnificent Cathedral. This year, for the first time, Christmas morning Eucharist will be broadcast from the Cathedral, live on BBC1. Lichfield Cathedral will welcome over 1.5 million viewers to join them to celebrate the service on December 25th.

Cathedral staff and volunteers have been working closely with the BBC to ensure that the day is a poignant, memorable and well-organised one.
On Christmas Eve, the Cathedral will be open from 11:15, owing to preparations for the Christmas morning broadcast. On the morning of December 25th, the 08:00 Holy Communion service will begin at the slightly earlier time of 07:50. This will allow the service to be unhurried, yet also permit worshippers to be clear of the building before the events of the morning unfold. Except for those attending the early Communion, the Cathedral doors will be closed to members of the public until 08:45. A final rehearsal will take place at 09:00. The congregation for the 10:00 Eucharist (do please note the earlier time than usual) will need to be seated by 09:30. These strict timings are requested by the BBC and are due to the large number of people expected and the need for absolute readiness to begin promptly.

For those wishing to enjoy the service in the comfort of their own home, the broadcast will be live on BBC1 at 10:00. The service will also be available on the BBC iPlayer in the following week.
